MA — Privacy Policy
Effective date: September 20, 2026
1. Introduction
This Privacy Policy explains how MA ("ma," "we," "us," or "our"), a commerce-free mobile gallery platform for the visual arts community, collects, uses, shares, and protects information when you use our mobile application and related services (collectively, the "App"). By using the App, you agree to the practices described in this Policy.
The core commitment of this Policy: we do not sell your personal data, and we do not run advertising on the App. Any data-driven features (such as content recommendations) exist solely to improve your experience of the App, not to monetize your attention or information.
2. Information We Collect
2.1 Information You Provide
Account information: name, email address, username, password, and optional profile details (bio, profile photo, artist or gallery affiliation, portfolio links).
Content you upload: images, descriptions, artist statements, exhibition details, and other material you submit to the App.
Communications: messages you send to us (e.g., support requests) or to other users through in-app features, if applicable.
2.2 Information Collected Automatically
Location data: with your permission, we collect precise or approximate device location to power location-based features (e.g., surfacing nearby galleries, exhibitions, or events). You can disable location access at any time in your device settings.
Usage and analytics data: how you interact with the App, including screens viewed, features used, search queries, session length, and referring/exit pages.
Device and technical data: device type, operating system, unique device identifiers, IP address, browser type, and crash/diagnostic logs.
2.3 Information From Third Parties
If you choose to log in or link an account using a third-party service (e.g., a single sign-on provider), we may receive basic profile information from that service, consistent with your privacy settings there.
3. How We Use Information
We use the information we collect to:
Create and maintain your account and provide the App's core functionality.
Power in-app recommendations and content surfacing — for example, showing you artists, exhibitions, or events likely to interest you, or ranking content by relevance and recency.
Provide location-based features, such as nearby gallery or event discovery.
Maintain, secure, and improve the App, including diagnosing technical issues and understanding aggregate usage patterns.
Communicate with you about your account, updates to the App, or your support requests.
Enforce our Terms of Service and protect the integrity of the community.
Our recommendation and ranking features are algorithmic, but they are not ad-driven: they are not used to sell advertising, build advertising profiles, or maximize engagement for a third party's commercial benefit. We do not use your data to serve you ads, because the App does not carry advertising.
4. How We Share Information
We do not sell your personal data. We do not and will not sell, rent, or trade your personal information to third parties for their marketing or advertising purposes.
We may share information only in the following limited circumstances:
Service providers: with vendors who perform services on our behalf, such as cloud hosting, data storage, analytics, and crash reporting — bound by contractual obligations to protect your data and use it only to provide services to us.
Other users, as intended by the App: profile and content information you choose to make public (e.g., a portfolio or exhibition listing) is visible to other users by design.
Legal and safety reasons: if required by law, legal process, or government request, or to protect the rights, property, or safety of ma, our users, or the public.
Business transfers: in connection with a merger, acquisition, financing, or sale of assets, subject to standard confidentiality protections and continued application of this Policy (or a materially similar policy) to your data.
5. Data Retention
We retain personal information for as long as your account is active or as needed to provide the App's services. We retain and use information as necessary to comply with legal obligations, resolve disputes, and enforce our agreements. You may request deletion of your account and associated data as described in Section 7.
6. Data Security
We use reasonable administrative, technical, and physical safeguards designed to protect your information from unauthorized access, disclosure, alteration, or destruction. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.
7. Your Rights and Choices
Access and correction: you may review and update your account information within the App at any time.
Deletion: you may delete your account and personal data within the App at any time.
Location permissions: you can enable or disable location access through your device's operating system settings.
Marketing communications: you may opt out of non-essential email communications via the unsubscribe link or by contacting us.
Regional rights: depending on where you live, you may have additional rights (such as data portability or the right to lodge a complaint with a supervisory authority) under applicable law. Contact us to exercise these rights.
8. Children's Privacy
The App is not directed to children under 13 (or the applicable minimum age in your jurisdiction), and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If we learn we have collected such information, we will delete it.
9. International Users
If you access the App from outside the country in which our servers or service providers are located, your information may be transferred to, stored, and processed in a different jurisdiction. We take steps intended to ensure your data continues to be protected in accordance with this Policy.
10. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. If we make material changes, we will notify you through the App or by other reasonable means before the change takes effect. Your continued use of the App after a change takes effect constitutes acceptance of the revised Policy.
